Even before watching this movie in class I was already familiar with it as I was forced to watch it by an ex, and needless to say, I didn't like it. This film was supposed to be emotional, however, the musical aspect of it made that hard for me to focus on. Still there were some scenes and plot stories that I liked such as the seen where Fantine is by the shipyard and is about to be taken advantage of by a man, so she finally fights back. I also felt that the story was harder to follow because all of the songs.

I didn't like this film very much at the beginning but it grew on me as the film went on. I appreciated the various plot twists and the concept of an abstract time. This is something that interested me because I shared the grandma's idea that time is free flowing and not linear. I also really enjoyed the scene toward the end when the Taki and Mitsuha are calling out to each other but cannot see each other until twilight…

Pierre Delacroix was one of the most interesting characters I've ever seen in a film, as he was entirely dynamic throughout the movie. In the first scene he seemed like a straight arrow black man who was attempting to fit into a white-man dominated society in the film industry. Eventually this becomes his demise at the end of the movie. Attempting to undermine his white boss and make his company look bad, Delacroix creates a blackface minstrel show that creates a revolution of support rather than ridicule. Hoping to get fired from his job, Delacroix creates something much bigger with more magnitude than he could expect.

At the beginning of the movie I believed that this would be a simple film about a small town farmer and his wrestling with God and sin, but when I was introduced to Sebastaio I was amazed by the way he captivates people with his long speeches and large cross. Manuel, a poor former is attracted to this faith along his journey around the backlands of brazil.
Eventually after standing up to her husband for as long as possible, Rosa has no choice but to kill Sebastaio after he kills her baby. What comes next is even worse when they meet Corisco, the "white devil".
