Harakiri 1962
The samurai that killed honor. Kobayashi pulls the rug out from under our feet, and allows us to fall headfirst into a novel hole of questioning. Is there any honor in assuring one's self-destruction? In the end of times, when all crumbles and hand is attached firmly to the mouth, is it not more honorable to survive? I cannot truly say.

Andrei Rublev 1966
In a film dotted and pressed with platitudes, Tarkovsky frames life as one that is primarily experienced in observation and not action. No one figure can truly define history, and we could see this in Andrei. His story climaxed not when he painted, created, or spoke, but when he watched Boris the bellmaker. There was never a secret in the bell's copper, but only one in the resounding sound of its chime.
