  Does it hold up nearly as well as I remember as a kid?  Nah … but it does serve as a small peak into the skewed perspective of childhood at the time as seen through the lens of popular culture. There are some genuinely creepy moments and machinations that seem to borrow heavily from Beetlejuice released just a year prior.
