I watched this whole movie thinking it was made after the war. Learning that it took place as well as being created during the middle of it, where there was genuine fear the Nazi’s could win, adds an entire other layer to the film. Especially with the ending. Fantastic film, loved it.

Love how the movie has this profound like “Everything will work itself out, keep going” moment told to the main character… then he proceeds to just ignore it and keep being miserable forever.
