This one feels like an underground graphic novel that is traded between friends. A good example of the thought that a B-movie doesn’t mean bad. The visuals and score are really top notch, and while it does slump in the middle, it does the work it sets out to do and is pretty successful. A nice low-budget surprise.

Pretty lifeless (no pun intended) update of the 1994 Brandon Lee vehicle. It’s not terrible, but there just doesn’t seem to be any reason for its existence. The cast is good and they do what the can with what they’ve been given. Unfortunately, they just weren’t given that much to work with. Some decent things, but kind of a slog to get through.

I thought the 2018 sequel was really strong, and I’m one of the few that kind of likes KILLS, so I went in relatively hopeful that we’d get a satisfying conclusion. The result is…meh. It’s frustrating, because the first half is pretty strong, spending time developing characters. Then it takes a turn, hinting at the supernatural, and never regains its footing. It’s unfortunate, as Curtis reminds us again that she’s always been a solid (if under appreciated) performer. She knows this character in and out, and deserved a better send off than she got. A decent if somewhat disappointing October choice.
