I could tell this movie was a book adaptation from scene one.
Like, the voiceover stuff was clunky (to me), and there were a ton of oversights or plot contrivances that I'm sure were better explained in print, but didn't make the cut.
It's a bit trite in the modern era of streaming, with the proliferation of limited series, to say "boy, this might've made a better limited series", but boy.
This would've made a better limited series.

So, I haven't seen the musical -- or read the book -- so I'm unclear where to lay the sins.
To that end... The good stuff is good, but I feel like it's important for stories to make sense in their own universe and this just doesn't.
I anticipate part two is 10 minutes of Elphaba nuking the fascists, and if it's not I'll be sorely disappointed.
