It's been ages since I've seen this movie, but I remembered the crucial elements. Steve Martin playing the straight man to John Candy's funny man made for some interesting viewing, though to my mind, Candy got the best scenes.

The chief attraction of watching this film for me is the Tom Waits penned and performed soundtrack. Waits and Crystal Gale sound surprisingly good together, and it was great to hear the songs in context. As the film, it's a better and cleverer shot romantic dramedy which does have its moments.

I still think the film is slightly too long, but not enough to subtract stars.

Tár is one of those movies, for me, that resonate after the credits have rolled. The screenplay is amazing, and its subtlety helps rather than hinders. Fine performances across the board - Cate Blanchett is first among equals. One question though, why it is always Mahler that gets featured in classical music films?
