Poor Things 2023
I’ve been thinking a lot about required reading lately- how generative it is for a group of people to share in the same context of cultural narratives. Among other things, a community that shares a reading list shares the potential for many good conversations. I kind of think this movie should be required watching, but more than anything this movie made me realize that cinema today is doing quite well at delivering significant and enlightened aspirational narratives to those interested enough to sit through them.

Interesting to see McQueen working this way, in collaboaration with what is essentially an Academic research paper. The juxtaposition of place across time works slowly to expand into a general view of human activity on earth…emphasis on slow, there are no mind exploding moments of realization, but slow & slight fascination.
