  Holy shit. This is so hilariously bad. No decisions anybody makes are logical. The choreography is terrible. The Tower of Death sequence takes place in an incredibly cheap set. The editing is bizarre. Music from 2001 and the James Bond theme is present here at one point. On top of all this, a disco track is this films theme, which proudly declares Bruce Lee as “king of king fu.”

  The Conversation 1974

  Rewatching this made me pick up on some details I didn’t catch beforehand. This is absolutely one of Coppola’s finest works. I think it’s definitely helped by Gene Hackman’s portrayal of the Harry Caul character. Harry is already a quiet character, so Hackman uses body language to further convey what the character is feeling. And make no mistake, this film is about the wiretapper, not wiretapping.   Took me a long time to finally get around to watching this but I'm glad I did it tonight. I have zero problems with this film. The cast is amazing. The writing is great. The pacing is perfect thanks to the expert usage of business and an overall captivating story. When you say "masterpiece," you mean something like this. This is truly a masterpiece of cinema.
