One of my favourite movies, moves me to tears every time. Costner is perfect in the lead as the earnest would be farmer who is swept up in a supernatural tale that leads back to his childhood and unresolved conflict with his father. Captures some of the frenetic pacing of the show and anxiety of something that was destined for greatness before that greatness was assured.

But the whole doesn’t add up to the sum its parts. The soundtrack works to hard to be chaotic and becomes a distraction. The humor of the real SNL rarely filters through but some
good performances of the Chase and Aykroyd roles were strong.

Quite liked this one. Good story with echoes of Wall-E. well developed characters, a little sugary but not full-blow diabetes, and good pacing, suspense, and fun. I’d put it a notch or two below Kung Fu Panda, maybe in the Ratatouille, Koko category.

Good singing. Ariana Grande was a compelling Glenda and the British dude was a charismatic cad. But run time was a bit long and, while I get this was a musical, I could have lived with a few less songs. (I dozed off at one point). But Defying Gravity was electric and always fun to see Jeff Goldblum tap dancing. A good, fun film but take off 30 mins. of runtime.
