Father-son issues told from the other way 'round: a father labors in strict ascetic obscurity, scowling as his far more likable son collects accolades and regard. A mild dark comedy ensues when roles are suddenly switched, with a prestigious award going (mistakenly) to the father rather than the son. The comedy falls away in the third act and things draw out to bleak conclusions. Were it not for the abruptness in the final third, I'd go with a higher rating. Worth seeing, just don't expect any rainbows in the end.
Touching and sober, frequently populated by elements of farce that somehow never make light of the dark subject matter. One of the better "ragtag journey" flicks I've seen in quite awhile.
Probably the best film noir to come out of Hollywood since Chinatown.
