What a tour de force for Cicely Tyson! She portrays a 110-year-old woman in 1960-something who recalls her life prior to emancipation and during segregation, through the civil rights struggles of the 60s. I am sure that if this hadn't been a made for TV movie, it would have been better known. Everyone is great here. A must-see.

Oh dear. I am always glad to see a noir or near-noir tgat I've never seen before, but boy did this one have its problems! The low budget and rushed (nine days) schedule are evident. I am grateful that I have never had to deal with cops and kawyers as incompetent as the ones shown here!!!

This film almost looks like a documentary the way that it's filmed. Of course it has Cassavetes' expert hand at the helm. All of the actors are natural, raw and believable. It is so painful, but rings true. I felt like a voyeur seeing yhese characters' pain and vulnerability. Exhausting and beautiful.
