Jack Quaid confirmed bonafide action star! This was a totally original, funny, keep-you-on-your-toes action flick. Loved every second of it and it was elevated to excellent-level by Quaid’s performance. Some awesome unexpected twists and a VERY good villain performance by Ray Nicholson. See it in a theater with good sound and projection and you’re in for an amazing night at the movies. Loved!!!

Really great and severely underrated. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Hackman and Washington are duking it out acting-wise like basically nothing I’ve ever seen. Incredible supporting cast performances too (Gandolfini, Mortensen, and more). This is one of if not my FAVORITE Tony Scott film. It’s really an epic feat of direction and editing — the entire movie takes place in the confines of this claustrophobic nuclear sub and it never gets boring even for a second. Loved this.

Enjoyed to some degree, but overall not good, unfortunately. The re-spawning idea is funny and definitely has potential, but they did not capitalize on it and then they didn’t finish developing any of the other ideas for the world of the movie & plot. You’re left with a super inconsistent action-ish movie that’s kinda not really about anything / about everything at the same time. Thought Robert Pattinson was decent/good and it had a couple laughs, but not enough to save it. Will still see every Joon-ho movie, though.

A new top 3 Ford for me. Wow. What a feat!!! Biblical in proportion, epic, tender, funny, romantic, raucous… felt Citizen Kane-esque in how it tackled every possible socio-political angle — and successfully so. Some OUTSTANDING cinematographic moments, top 2 John Wayne performances ever I think (second only to The Searchers), absolutely goated acting by the supporting cast… I could really go on and on. Vera Lane is my new old timey crush btw. Love her. I was entranced by this movie from the opening scene onward. Thank you, JF!!!!!
