    The Mourning Forest

Many have said they find this film to be tedious, however I found it to be quiet and contemplative. I almost felt as though I was getting lost in the forest with them. It's rather heart breaking in a way, I cried during the last 20 minutes or so and my heart feels heavy whenever I think about this film. The World of Kanako follows ex-detective Akihiro Fujishima (Kôji Yakusho), who searches for his missing daughter, the titular Kanako. This takes him down a swirling, dark world of under-age prostitution, rave culture, drug dealing, and even the Yakuza — plunged into a sea of blood and death.

The film spends little time on Kanako herself, choosing insead to show the effect she has on those around her. From her father to a young boy (whose love for her leads him down a dark…
