  The Tale of The Princess Kaguya 2013

  After letting it sink in for a while I am still in complete disbelief at just how good it is. Unbelievably gorgeous no matter where you look, filled with so much texture, subtle movements portrayed beautifully and lavish sequences like Shinji Hashimoto's run (contender for the best cut of animation of all time maybe??? definitely up there).

  It took me off guard just how bold the script manages to feel, I should probably be more familiar with his earlier works…

  Garden of Remembrance 2022

  It feels redundant to say this to anyone who has seen any of Yamada's works, but her ability to put those unspoken emotions that slowly eat at you into the screen is unmatched. The moment that really got me on this one was that one cut (by Shingo Yamashita!!!!) where they're dancing behind the shades, it's so intimate and euphoric and it made me feel so desperately lonely, great stuff.

  Also yeah, this looks insane. So much talent gathered for this short, it's some of the best anime I've seen all year. The music is really incredible too! Lovely-Summer-Chan's songs capture that fleeting longing so well.

  I kinda don't want to be that person but god the disconnect I feel to first world cishet struggles is crazy, there's just not a lot for me to grab unto. You know it's bad when they have to give a character "incurable cancer" to try and make any of it have any weight.
