  A bit formulaic and Ron Howard-ish, but well acted, well paced, and overall a solidly made film. Even though it zigs when you expect it to zig, it is technically sound and committed. Also, while ultimately an 'uplifting' film that ends with beating the Nazis, there is enough of mixed emotions and dangerous social darkness (in how society treated a war hero with different lifestyle) sprinkled in at the end that makes this a worthwhile movie.

  I will admit that I probably missed a view things here in translation . . . very heavy british slang and situations in general. As much as I love birds as a subject matter, and as there are some great sequences in here with Casper's appreciating and understanding of nature, the rest of this movie is pretty slow.

  A great re-watch here: although the last 20 minutes of this movie kind of flounder and don't contribute much, watching this on blu ray was a joy. It is shot so well, so colorfully, with so much attention to the action that one can actually absorb what's happening and soak in the dance, the song, and the celebration.
