  Despite what Homer Simpson thinks, Cronenberg's dreamlike amalgam of William S. Burroughs' life and work is a lush, ripe fantasy full of dry with and dank trips. It checks out of reality almost immediately to take us to the Interzone where Peter Weller's laconic William Lee encounters shadwy operators played by Julian Sands, Ian Holm and Roy Scheider.   Ended my run of Cronenbergs with a palate-cleanser: a sequel (directed by the first film's FX guru) that ups the viscera and puppetry but lacks the wit or philosophy of the first The Fly. As YA replacements for Goldblum and Davis, Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga aren't so bad, and the slam bang finale has to be seen to be believed, but the buildup for I Was a Teenage Tsetse makes you wish there'd be an intervention by Spider-Man long before the final metamorphosis.
