  a woman rendered mute by abuse. how being too afraid to voice your own pain works against you. how assault strips you of the wherewithal to pursue a more hopeful future. reticent about the inciting murder, focus is placed on the three women at its center for a second wave feminist interrogation on rape as a function of patriarchy.

  sea shanties and a dainty maine murder mystery. definitely got better as it went on, albeit with a few contrived moments.

  seems to be going for “crabs in a bucket” as a mentality that also extends to suburban outskirts, where the unspoken rule is to swim to the top of your food chain by any means. where men violate and police women, while women exploit anyone with less power than what they’ve gained.

  goofy as hell - voodoo doll possession abound. the fight choreography/pyrotechnic work is especially spectacular; i think my favorite scene involves an attic fight between the male lead and actress kara hui wherein the two begin mimicking the sounds of a cat and mouse to deceive a hotel guest (gordon liu) staying below. i wish the notion of firearm invulnerability and the relationship between the three main characters amounted to something grander, but this was definitely an entertaining watch
