The Hanging Tree 1959
I didn't know that I needed a melodrama western, but I guess I did.
There's a certain Sirkian take on the oppressiveness of the small (mining) town at play here where your past is a constant reminder and a point of judgement. If that doesn't get you, the amazing photography of a functioning 1800s mining town will.

The Wild Bunch 1969
You would think that going to film school one would have seen this early on. In my case, I only read about it about 50 times and never bothered to check it out. I had gone through spaghetti westerns a few years ago and assumed this wouldn´t live up to the "cool" level that the best of those deliver, but I can now say I regret not seeing this earlier.

Cold war spies and nuclear submarines in Cinerama - you can´t go wrong!
Movies like this are meant to be seen big and boy am I glad I have a projector. The artifice of the sets and special effects paired with some pretty decent naturalistic talent made this almost feel more like watching a filmed play - and I dug it. A real guy movie perfect for a few hours on the couch on Sunday afternoon.
