How many times do I need to say it? I love politics. Captain America: Brave New World shines in politics, glistens in Harrison Ford and Anthony Mackie, but begins to dull in its villain and climax.

A good idea smartly executed and well performed, The Prestige knows how to build a compelling story while simultaneously brewing something much more interesting underneath.
This move would sit squarely in the 4-and-a-half category for me, but two issues bring it down a notch: firstly, Tesla’s machine is one randomly sci-if-esque element in a movie that is normally so grounded. Secondly, the “twin” explanation is a little Deus Ex Machina, but I can easily forgive this because of the amazing job this movie does at setting out a large smattering of clues that all seem to make sense once “The Prestige” finally hits.
Say what you want about why Joker: Folie à Deux placed itself within the genre of musicals, but it simply doesn’t work. The first Joker movie worked best because of how grounded it was, and the second’s dreamlike scenes not only completely remove this movie from reality, but also reveal how boring the character of Arthur Fleck really was.
