It never quite reaches the highs of the profundity that it's clearly grasping at and asking its viewers to make inferences to, but much like it's post-apocalyptic setting IN THE LOST LANDS both oozes atmosphere and is dotted with ideas and concepts that tickle the imagination of what was or could have been, even if the results are somewhat impersonal.

Into the Fire 1989
A Hong Kong action film by way of the French New Wave, specifically a mix of Breathless and Jules et Jim. Right down to the cast dynamic, the way characters reference movies they were inspired by, and a car crash in the (tragic) climax.
Kinda baffling to me that this hasn't seen a home release outside of (maybe) a domestic VHS or Laserdisc. Given the historical context of its creation, the level of chemistry between the leads, and the relative high profile of its cast and crew.
Feel insanely lucky that I managed to catch this on 35mm at the Nitehawk.
