Ok, I had high expectations for this one. Maybe I should have expected less substance and more style from Gia Coppola and I wouldn’t have been so underwhelmed. But it all just felt relatively thin.
Pam is a standout. But I don’t know if this is the revelatory performance everyone has been making it seem. Don’t get me wrong - I really felt for her character. Maybe with some stronger direction and a better script she really could have soared.…

If you’re easily frustrated by pacing and nonlinear editing, this may not be the biopic you’re expecting. But if you approach this film as two, impressionistic hours to be steeped in the fever-dream conclusion of an artist’s life, then you may find yourself as caught up in the fantasy as I was.
Yes, it’s a little much to get past Angelina Jolie feigning opera… but just don’t pretend you were ever really an opera snob before and then it won’t…
