  Ugh. Mulaney’s old schtick worked so well because of the caricature of himself he would play. The light hearted, dorky schtick does not work unless the material is equally dorky and light hearted. There was nothing special about John - he was your pal, your neighbor, an everyman, and it worked so well. As desperately as he tries to make addiction quirky, it falls largely flat. What was once endearing is now just flat out annoying.

Following
