Went in very blind, was delighted to find Nope was kinda a reimagining of Jaws - which is definitely one of the keys to my heart.

Much like it's characters "Pixie" is ambitious in scope but clunky in execution. The film is a thoroughly entertaining post-modern Western via Jules et Jim. However, while the filmmakers are clearly well-read in genre cinema; their over-enthusiasm to pour that knowledge into a romanticized Irish crime caper leaves it feeling a little like Supervalu brand Tarantino. Still worth a watch particularly for some standout sequences and solid casting.

A really pleasant surprise. "Spontaneous" is a smartly written, sharply portrayed update to the themes "Heathers" covered a few decades ago, albeit one that includes a darned sight more body horror and is not shy about referencing other films. A film about teens exploding does not deserve to be as funny, as sardonic and ultimately as deep as "Spontaneous".
