a whirlwind of emotions
i'll start with the positives.
it's clear to see why wong kar wai's reputation preceds him, as this is one of the most gorgeous films i've ever watched. i especially love the choices in setting: the narrow hallways, cramped offices, and slender streets almost made me feel anxious and trapped, similar to how the main characters must have felt in their respective marital situations. the choice in music is just fabulous, i love how it combines…
my favorite live album of all time.
i decided to sit down and rewatch this and it's hitting me all over again just how amazing it is. dijon and mk.gee's chemistry is through the roof, and the raw emotion is just so palpable; the way the music seems to just fill the room is incredible. that rodeo clown performance...i'll never forget the first time i ever heard it.
they really got me.
one of my favorite oneshots ever might just also be my favorite animated film ever. the movie encapsulates friendship, coming-of-age, and loss. the animation perfectly captures fujimoto's original work, yet somehow elevates it at the same time, not to mention the score was fantastic.
not much else to say...go watch it
