Alan Clarke's 'Elephant' lacks any real dialogue or narrative. Rather than following a particular story or a protagonist it flits between long tracking shots of murders. The killings themselves are blunt and without much in the way of emotion or theatre. Obviously the events in Elephant are intended to represent real events that occurred during the Troubles. The most poignant thing that stuck with me however was the complete seeming anonymity of the murders - you can't quite pick friend from foe.

Ms .45 1981
The story revolves around a shy and mute tailor who, after getting raped twice in a single day, adopts an almost insane hatred for philanderers, cheaters and all misogynists. She roams around the streets of New York and simply blasts them away. The dialogue is fairly sparse which only contributes to the cold nature of her murders. Apparently this was made on a low budget but that in no way detracts from the overall quality of the film. Probably a masterpiece.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover 1989
Incredible! This really was a huge surprise for me. Its been on my watchlist for some time now but I completely did not expect it to be the surrealist masterpiece it turned out to be. Beautifully shot, with a whole host of excellent performances. Thinking about it, I would be hard pressed to find many acting performances better than Michael Gambon's in this.
