A punch to the gut- Sissy Spacek and Shelly Duvall just give amazingly layered and deeply emotional performances. The cinematography is beautiful and innovative as fuck- especially the dream sequences leading into the final act… One of those rare films by a celebrated male director that feels genuinely rooted in a feminine perspective.

Shout out to the Turner Classic Movies channel for finally forcing me to watch this!

    Blessed be the maker.
A revelation, a cultural reset. A very faithful and entertaining adaptation that manages to convey the sweeping, massive, planetary scale of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic.

Rebecca Ferguson EATS in her role as Lady Jessica.
Also big ups to the costume department- I loved the attention to detail on how the Fremen stillsuits actually looked like they have been worn and weathered by the harsh, desert climate on Arrakis.

Could have been a perfect movie if not for a few weird cuts and some questionable editing decisions.

Saw at the Nickelodeon in Portland, Maine.

This is a thoroughly impressive directorial debut that features some top-notch performances, especially from Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, and Dominique Fishback. The tone is appropriately serious and disturbing. The fact that this film is so uncomfortable to watch is a testament to Shaka King's ability to handle historical subject matter with extreme care. There were a few moments when it veered toward seeming too dramatized and, on the opposite ends of the spectrum, moments that may feel dry and over-serious…
