ripped me apart. hating someone you used to love and having so much anger towards them but deep down that little bit of love is still eating you up inside. I kept picturing what I would do in this situation with my ex-best friend and got sad. I think that's what movies are about; seeing yourself

    Longtime Companion

this was a really well-done window into the (white and affluent) past. I thought it was so powerful the way it opens in 1981 with the characters reading a news article about "a mysterious new disease" first reported in homosexuals, so unaware of what's coming... seeing people's theories, first reactions, paranoias, unknowns, incorrect medical information. and to make this movie not even 10 years after that first article was published in a main-stream news outlet, to the point it catches up to the present-- and to already have so much introspection!! plus that sweet ending 🥹

10 year anniversary screening at Wealthy Theater with a Q&A with the gaffer of the film!

Looked at this with such different eyes than the first time I watched. Also the sisterhood subplot?? Didnt notice that before! I love Detroit :)

I loved how this looked, I loved the golden aura of it all. I loved the clothes, their quality and how thoughtfully planned they were. Baz Lurhman makes fantastical shit like this all the time and gets away with it!!! IT WAS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At times he was clearly writing for his late wife who he loved so so dearly. everyone pushing that this movie is bad is a loser!
