  Mid and it was accidental to even see it (my friends and I got kicked out of another movie) — so it was fun and good at times but overall, like, meh.

  Faith is the hardest thing to keep in a world where everything tries only to tear one away from it. Andrei Rublev bears witness to some of the most horrific sights a human can see. He is brought down. He sins. Those around him are envious, violent, selfish, and he despairs.

  I totally wrote this off in the first few minutes as a moderately emotional, high-mediocre animated movie under the standards studio ghibli sets for itself. Throughout the film I was shown to be more wrong than I could imagine. This is a beautiful musing on how our past affects our now, the nature of nostalgia, how to find one's true purpose in life, the difficulties of being true to yourself, and so many more themes which were incredibly meaningful to me. Beautiful film, and the animation style really added to it. Applause, all around.
