Yeah there’s your Oscar winning screenplay. Incredible thriller that just has you spinning right up until the very end. Career defining work for Fiennes in my opinion. Lithgow was a treat too. If this really is his last role before retirement (I’m not counting the Harry Potter slop) then he went out on a great note. Big fan of the crisp sound in this too. Great blocking that never felt like it was trying to set up One Big Shot™️ like lesser Oscar bait films will. Really kicking myself for not catching this in theaters, have to imagine it plays great with a good crowd

Great piece of screenwriting that really played to its stars’ respective strengths. Kieran earned that Oscar but man, I really, really loved Jesse in this

Marketing got this one right. What an epic period piece. Stepping out for the intermission felt like I had been ripped several decades forward. Really gorgeous to look at too. The soft blues and greens clashing with the hard, cold grays and whites took me back to my color theory days in ENG 180. And speaking of UK, this might have actually made me able to fondly look at the Mining & Minerals Building for once

Greatest sense of scale in any movie ever. It’s one of the most important films ever made and it doesn’t let you spend a second thinking otherwise. O’Toole is just absolutely sublime. That cut of him blowing out the match fading into the desert sun will be etched into my mind forever. Can’t believe I almost skipped out on a chance to see this in theaters
