Today I made gochujang salted caramel cookies from a recipe in NY Times Cooking. It was ambitious and sounded exciting, but it was messy and kinda didn't work like it was supposed to, and if I didn't know the source material I wouldn't be able to make any sense out of the end product, but they were still okay.

Mary and The Witch's Flower 2017
Charming with a great lesson about how kids shouldn't be such little fucking liars all the time. The look on my kids' face when that quarter dropped was very satisfying. The movie is fine.

Deadwood: The Movie 2019
I don't know if I'm more disappointed in the film's lazy, uninspired recapitulation of show's superficial aspects (Shakespearean cocksuckers and whores with hearts of gold aplenty) without any of the intellectual backbone that made it, you know, actually good, or in myself for succumbing to nostalgia for the pop culture of my younger days expecting something meaningful out of what amounts to yet another exercise in fan service.
Never meet your heroes.
