There were elements I liked about this film. It captured the loneliness of London. It had great understated performances all around and some sumptuous cinematography.
I could go along with the conceit of Andrew Scott reflecting with his parents as it opened up some poignant moments about how far we have come since the 80s. He knew these people. You can imagine him imagining having those conversations with them.
But the Mescal reveal at the end completely jumped the shark. I mean, their whole (beautiful) relationship unraveled there. Too damn silly.

I've long been a Nolan-sceptic on the basis that his films have tended to be more impressive for their experiments with form at the expense of character development.
Suffice to say, this film is just so rich in character and detail and absurdly well acted. I fully expected Cillian to cill it, but Emily Blunt was superb and I didn't realise Downey Jr was that good either.
It's a very talky, complex film. But structurally that just makes that Trinity…
