Another banger from Kurosawa. The colours are amazingly vibrant and some shots particular toward the end of the film you just know would not be in a film today as everyone’s attention span falls. But it conveys so much in so little.

What a banger of a film, holy shit. I’ve never seen Morgan Freeman act like that. And Brad Pitt is obviously excellent. The sound design is so goddamn immersive, and the aesthetic is amazing, from the opening credits to the design of the end credits. Been a while since a film made me teary eyed. Just a delight to watch and experience. Especially around a period where things can feel so dreary. Loved it!
As a side note, coming out a year after WW2 ended..I can’t imagine what it would have been like to watch something like this. Something so full of life and hope.

I really wanted to give this a four and a half but the ending brought it down for me sadly. It’s like they added an epilogue at the end just to actually shove it in people’s faces that Tom has to live in an endless cycle of being trapped in the corner he created. We already knew that from the one character who suspects him…
