Genuinely can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching a movie. It's a little too silly, but what a great time. It feels so good to laugh.

Eraserhead 1977
So, there's surreal explorations of reality, and then there's stuff that's so surreal that it just fully departs from reality. There were maybe 10 minutes of this movie that made even the slightest bit of sense. I can't actually give it a star rating because I don't understand it at all. I don't understand what it's going for. I don't understand if it got there or not. At the very end when the mutant baby laughs at him killed me.

The Outlaw Josey Wales 1976
I mean God damn what a movie. Like many westerns it's kind of a collection of semi-related events, most of which end with Clint Eastwood drawing his gun very quickly and then spitting. There's something really freeing about this--the movie doesn't feel pressure to build to anything or move along a timeline. It's just a cowboy set on revenge meeting diverse groups of people and either shooting them or adding them to his party.
The near-rape (well, the second one)…

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 1964
Very funny! The bits that were good are just such tight, strong comedic writing, but the parts that aren't are fairly boring and can be missed. The gap jokes killed me every time. The iconic image of the cowboy riding the nuke is still really stunning. And a tight 90!
I think what's special about this is how it's both completely ridiculous and also not totally unimaginable? Especially in the current situation 😭 the idea that the world would end because a very small number of men have insane conspiracy theories and too much power is just like, correct.
