Another example of a perfect film. Maybe not on every technical level, but for entertainment value and such an absolute encapsulation of a genre, I will always put it up there as one of the best.

Captain America: Civil War 2016
Old marvel movies hit different now even if just by comparison. Also how do the Russo brothers direct so well under MCU but so shit everywhere else?? Cuz this is a fantastic action movie and thriller even regardless of the superheroes

Spirited Away 2001
Watching the ghibli films in Japanese has always been a life long dream of mine, and this one was no exception. The nuances lost and struck down by the subtitles are so much more signifiant than I first thought, especially the ways they lighten the overall tone and lose a lot of the realism and strength of the message.
If you have the chance to watch it subbed, with properly translated subtitles (not just the subs from the dub script) I cannot recommend it enough.

The Hateful Eight 2015
The extended edition on netflix, while painfully slow… adds a lot of atmosphere and highlights the actors beautifully with gorgeous long takes of intense character acting. Add in the hilarious digs mixed with gratuitous violence and a hefty cup of racists being monologued at by Samuel L. Jackson, and this is one grueling, hateful story. But somehow, in one hell of an entertaining way.
