    Blade Runner 2049

    ★★★★★

I watch this on the plane, and didn't get to finish it before I landed. But it still counts right?

Once again, I am reminded of the importance of audio quality.

I am also shocked by the Singapore airlines movie curation censorship. I absolutely understand though. Because you wouldn't want some kid sitting behind you to get a glimpse of nudity, I suppose?

Either way, 2049 is still a masterpiece.

I watch it again on the plane. The inferior audio quality definitely takes a huge chunk out of the atmosphere and immersion. The "voice" sounded like shit on the Singapore airlines headphones. But it was extremely fun to refresh my memory and recap all the political backstory in preparation for the sequel.

Little Fish is basically Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But in reverse. Kinda.

It's melancholic in the most aesthetic way possible, and at the same time it's also a medical horror. The beauty of its sadness doesn't come from hope, but from the tenacity of the characters. It isn't about searching for a silver lining, or grasping for fleeting rays of light. It's about holding hands as the inevitable thunderstorm looms closer.

No One Will Save You, except for yourself, I guess?

Brian Duffield makes an applaudable commitment to a deafening lack of dialogue, human dialogue that is. Even more applaudable is the story telling, given this absurd constraint. The audience is forced to make guesses and inferences, but nothing too baffling. Its obvious enough, and entertaining even to decipher the plot.

Kaitlyn Dever is amazing. An extremely likable protagonist that barely falls into those irritating horror movie clichés of making stupid…
