Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Approaches the genius of the novel. At times I think it leans too far into the comedic elements and sacrifices some of the inherent darkness at play. Maybe that’s necessary here though. It’s a very difficult balance to strike.

Visually, this may be my favorite movie of all time. The drug trips are obviously sick but the set design is what really makes this film. Just couldn’t get my eyes off the screen. Every shot was packed with interesting things to look at.

Overall I appreciate this adaptation and think it does justice to the parent text.

Some interesting undertones here.  Lot of ideas that I didn’t expect to be present.  Doesn’t take the next step and lean into any of them though.  Just alludes to some mature ideas that are oddly juxtaposed with ridiculous splatter killing scenes.

Some of the comedy needed to be refined a little too.  Good amount of the jokes just missed.

Osgood Perkins has a weird fixation with master puppeteer serial killers also.  Making a living off that shit.

Kind of interesting but little bit of a snooze.  Had a hard time holding my interest.

Didn’t really enjoy this.  Not out there enough to justify the loose ends.  Weird idea that feels under developed.  Not that interesting of a concept imo.

Next to nothing worth liking about this.  I thought the performances were good but not great.  Nothing worth nominating for any awards in my eyes.

It was sort of interesting to hear about the process I guess.  But it felt like everything that it had to say about that comes across in one or two scenes and then message is repeated over and over again.

It’s also unbelievably boring.  Such a slog to get through.  Feels like you can…
