Brutal, unrelenting, violent, on the nose, action packed, and fun.
Everything I expected.
Solid action, a cool and intense purge montage, over the top characters, kind of bad acting, quick and dirty violence, and one solid long take tracking shot.
Found the opening kind of.. disappointing. I didn’t really dig bringing the purge back via news exposition played over the top of the credits. Luckily I was back on board after about 40 minutes and I stayed there until the end.

I'm not smart enough to understand any of the subtext (a friend explained it to me afterwards and it sounded cool) so from a purely aesthetic point of view I thought this was great.
Loved the make-up and the text-cards. Framing was great the entire time.

Cool sets, great pacing (it changes things up just when it needs to), a few amazing stunts, a truly frightening reveal (that atmosphere!), some epic shots of the opera in the 20's, but maybe most importantly the best-named villain I've encountered in a movie.
Also I'm always a fan of movies getting the credit's out of the way early.
This is the earliest made film I've seen.. and it felt a bit like a stage…
