I can't believe it's taken me so long to start to take Jack Lemmon's output seriously.

    Robot Dreams

    ★★★★

If you're fortunate enough to live a long life (or even just a moderately long one), you'll experience the exhilaration of meeting new people, making new friends, and becoming deeply connected with them. They make your experience of the world richer, the colors of the landscape more vibrant, and the glow of the sun warmer. But many of those friendships will end -- some by choice, others not. You will reunite with some, but most will probably be forever changed…

    The Last Forest

    ★★★★★

The Yanomami, who largely have chosen to abstain from participating in capitalism, clearly know more about capitalism than Americans do.

In its short runtime, "The Last Forest" encapsulates so much: the importance of community; the devastating environmental effects of gold mining; the boundless gifts of the forest; the poor wages of those underlings who labor under capitalism; and the timeless wisdom of stories passed down through generations.

This is not a film about climate change. This is not a film about deforestation. This is a film about greed fueled by gold mining...and the endless toxic temptation of modernity.

    Red, White & Royal Blue

    ★★½

For a film that looks like a made for TV movie, Red, White & Royal Blue does a remarkably good job at smartly addressing a good number of modern issues:
    - Coming out to your parents
    - The stiffing responsibility expected of members of the British monarchy
    - Whether the monarchy makes any sense at all in the 21st century
    - The acceptability of being queer and a public figure

This film has a beautiful heart, even if it's a little campy on the surface.
