I love that this movie didn't need monsters. The first hour the horror of the grief and being lost in the cave is enough to have carried this movie, but the monsters!

Godzilla vs. Hedorah 1971
Wow, wasn't expecting to find this level of cinematic genius this far into my watch. One of the reasons I'm doing this watch through is I heard most Godzilla movies are nothing but silly shlock with no real cinematic value and I wanted to see for myself. This movie proves that entirely wrong. Crazy cinematography with a 60s acid vibe I adore. Horrific mutilated bodies which aren't usually shown in previous movies. The trade off of atomic waste for good ol human pollution brings a level of unease which I haven't felt since the 1954 original.
