  Dennis Hopper sure is a freaky dude. Assisting in assassination makes for some great buddy moments. I will admit I was a little confused but that may have added to my being entranced.

  Great to revisit this film after probably a decade, now in 4K on a big screen. Second night of the Fluid Karma Tour with Richard Kelly present for a post-show Q&A. I would've first seen Donnie Darko as a young teen looking for "mindfuck" movies, alongside Memento, The Machinist, Mulholland Drive, The Game, Dark City, etc.. I probably even made some high school girlfriends watch it. I'm surprised at how well it holds up.

  What's with the title? "Honeyland" invokes a silliness to me whereas I find the content dead serious. This film makes a relatively simple story into something profoundly beautiful by way of being true and real. Some gorgeous shots don't hurt either. I think that few could write a script as compelling and it would be lesser were the characters acting. I could not help feeling all of Hatidze's joys, woes, and frustrations.
