Sunday Movies with the eldest boy!

This one was a doozy. The first CG movie we’ve ever watched, the first one with a character that dies, and other challenging and complex ideas. My little guy did great though. I remember liking this more in the theater—but I am still FLOORED by the songs, obviously. Moana is such a great hero, almost wish she had more solo screen time, but it still works well. I really like the third act, a rarity with most modern movies!

His favorite part was Maui, specifically half-shark Maui.

Second week of Sunday Movies with my son! He has the Golden Book of this, so we gave it a shot and he loved it! This is usually what Nissan’s my favorite Disney animated feature, because I watched it in a slightly higher rotation than all the other VHS tapes I wore out as a kid.

It’s a little aimless but still so much fun. My son’s favorite part was the sugar bowl, unsurprisingly.

Michael B. Jordan is too hot & too good & had the best final scene/line of an antagonist in recent memory. I…

Hi I’m first generation Mexican-American & this film takes place from very near where my mother’s side is from, & where I spent chunks of my childhood visiting. Many of them left for America in the era when this film takes place. There was a lot of this film that was alien to me, having grown up in Chicago twenty years later, but there was also much that rang familiar, rang painfully true, & heartbreakingly real.

    It’s a lot to process, & I’m not…
