The Shining 1980
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The concept feels so engrained in our minds yet so unapproached by any artist except Kubrick himself; a classic cheery American family heads off to a haunted hotel and crumbles over the bureaucratic nature of their world and absolute madness.
The Shining is complex. It's a twisted fairy-tale about evil, corruption, abuse, and a lot more. What stood out to me the most was the backdrop of American archetypes. Really this film has probably the best portrayal of the American family…

If you think this is anti Native American propaganda you’re not a very intelligent person.

Pretty good adaptation. It's refreshing to see James Gandolfini not be the absolute standout of the cast and not be the only one giving their all when it comes to body language like every project he's in besides The Sopranos. This might just be one of the greatest set of actors in film history. The editing and acting work together to effectively make you feel like the conflict is really happening. In the end, this version is far less polished than the Sidney Lumet film and I don't see why anyone would take this over that adaptation. Nonetheless a pretty good film.
