the opera singer at the beginning goes so much harder than this movie deserves

I've not seen a Fast and Furious film but I've seen Sosuke's mom drive during a magic tsunami and I don't think F&F would compare

the first time I saw this I was on an airplane to Mexico and Your Name wasn't available in the US yet and then the flight encountered some turbulence so they shut off the in-flight movie right after he learns about the comet strike and I had to wait for 6 months for Your Name to come out on bluray in the US before I could finish the film

unfortunately Leo makes smoking look really cool

it's surreal to experience media for the first time decades later, AFTER seeing the most memorable moments in parody, memes, and endless discussions about buoyancy, but I'm inclined to agree with everyone who lost their minds about this movie in the 90s — it's real good stuff. (like how I watched SpongeBob for the first time during 2022.) Kathy Bates steals every scene she's in, Leo and Kate have great chemistry, and the visuals are stunning as always — no one ever accused James Cameron of a half hearted job

diversity win! some of the members of this biker gang are canonically pansexual!

a bizarre blend dystopian, action, and cop thriller, with occasional touches of exploitation horror, Mad Max is a solid enough debut for a director who has done much better work later in his career. the plot would probably be pretty tedious in other hands, but Miller has a fantastic sense of visual style that carries this film into a franchise and eventual reboot that helped me meet my husband (he didn't actually like Fury Road much but he still married me)

Jacques Tati has a great skill for physical comedy, but I really loved how much this film took time to breathe between comedic bits — it felt like we're a fly on the wall watching these people have their beach house vacation

    M. Hulot is such a fun character. this was my first Jacques Tati film but I'm excited to work through his filmography the next few months
