    Beautiful direction and cinematography. The closest to doing for trench warfare what Saving Private Ryan did for D-Day.

    I wonder if the anachronistic industrial music will be played out soon, but it was very effective here.

    A well-acted, affecting tragedy.

    Far from the best Scorsese. It doesn't feel like there is the same alchemy of artistic vision as in his best films—like there was a bit of a disconnect between his sensibility and the story that he wasn't able to bridge.

    It's pretty amazing how immersive is the world of 19th-century Manhattan they created. And Daniel Day Lewis is incredible in it. Broadbent is great too.

    It was really incredible footage, but at times the whole quest to find the body of Irving seemed like a pretense to climb Everest without seeming like a tourist.

    They made a big thing about it, but then did the summit (which seemed unnecessary to the search) first and nearly didn't have energy to actually search at all. It seems the Sherpas didn't know that the plan was to search because when they went to look the Sherpa was surprised.…
