    Yeah, it is beautifully shot, and the story is heavy, but the stylistic choice of using the first-person perspective just didn’t work for me. It created a disconnect that made it extremely difficult to be fully invested in the characters’ journey. Some shots felt unnecessary and random, as if RaMell was more focused on appearing interesting than adding real depth to the story. So about halfway through I found myself reaching for my phone, which is never a good sign.

    Nickel Boys absolutely had its moments, but the creative choices ultimately held it back from being as impactful as it could have been.
