  I went to Hougang Mall cinema expecting heartbreak and drama from I Am the Secret in Your Heart, but instead, the real show was right in front of me. The uncle and auntie couple in row F went back and forth, setting rules for their relationship like it was a work contract. “Must text me every day, must update me on your plans, and we meet twice a week, no matter what!"   I can't review this. This is not a film.

  Jafar Panahi's tale of his fight against the authoritarian regime is further exemplified with his plight of being marginalized. The mode of direct cinema reveals the filmmaker's negotiation with his craft as he wiggles his way to eventually create a film that is 'not a film'.
