  How Green Was My Valley 1941

  On paper this is a really good film, and it still was but it just felt like.. something was missing.  I really enjoyed the story but at times it was a slog to get through. For a film that has a runtime just under two hours, it really felt like it was three.

  I wasn’t sure how I was going to rate this film until the final scenes that completely heightened my experience and upon researching a little afterwards. I’m a sucker for great cinematography and deep symbolism and metaphors and this film is jam packed with all that good stuff. Really just a great film by Tarkovsky who used his own experiences of living in Italy to influence this film.

  The acting all around in this film couldn’t get better. Liv Ullman was top notch as always but Harriet Anderrson’s performance is one of the greatest performances I have ever seen.

  The cinematography was as beautiful as expected with Bergman and the use of red in this film was the obvious standout.
