"If you can't see it in IMAX... don't see it at all."
Those were the words of a reviewer I follow. I immediately groaned after hearing that. After some thought, though, I decided to see this in IMAX. Just in case.
And it's true. It normally wouldn't be, but it is here. The story, performances, and pacing are all acceptably functional. But this, much like Blade Runner 2049, is peak atmosphere. We're supposed to live in its world, and IMAX…
Amulet starts off with gorgeous cinematography and an intriguing first act. The writing, however, does this film no favors. It's riddled with holes, too abstract for its own good, and just flat out boring. Every moment of the third act is unearned. Everything takes a nose dive in the film's lengthy conclusion. The logic, the quality, the feeling... all thrown away right in front of the audience. Many people walked out of the screening before it ended. Very few stuck…
A faithful, yet fresh, retelling of the enduring classic. This is the best adaptation of the already 5-star source material.
