  I was really trying to keep and open mind but then that one scene where andrew garfield is a genius at marketing but he's just above it all happened and...it just derailed from there

  Surprisingly intertitle-heavy for such a visually-oriented director like Ozu but still has enough beautiful and meaningful images to compensate. That first image, when it starts raining, comes to mind.

  There are no high-minded philosophical ideas at play here, at least not on first viewing, but rather Titane works as an extreme challenge in empathy, as the director noted herself at my screening. Speaking of which, it was awesome hearing her talk about the intentions behind certain scenes just to see how a vision translates to the screen and can be lost/transformed/re-interpreted in the process. Heard people complaining about the moderator, too, like she was the absolute worst but I just thought she was fine. Wish the Q&A had been longer.
